Women In Travel Summit 2017….Milwaukee

Women In Travel Summit (WITS) 2017

When I listed the places I wanted to visit this year (2017), Milwaukee Wisconsin wasn’t one of them but earlier in January, I learned about the Women in Travel Summit (WITS) in a travel group that I’m a part of. I also later found out that they were in need of volunteers. I immediately applied and kept my fingers crossed that I will be selected. Several weeks later, I got an email telling me that they would like to move forward with me, I was ecstatic . I had a phone interview some days later and I was officially onboard (As a volunteer, you help out during the summit in exchange for a free admission ticket). I was happy to be visiting a new city but particularly happy also because the keynote speaker at the summit would be Oneika Raymond, an avid traveler, someone I admire and follow on social media and have learned a lot from.

Proud volunteer 🙂

WITS is a premier event for women travel influencers and industry members, organized by Wanderful.  It is an avenue for women who travel to network and learn from each other. This year’s conference took place in Milwaukee Wisconsin between April 21st to 23rd at the Hilton Milwaukee City Center Hotel. I arrived on Friday and attended some sessions with some great speakers, one of which thought how to develop a memorable digital brand (very informative). We then had a “volunteer “ welcome meeting. It was amazing to meet so many travel bloggers and influencers from around the world and learn what everyone does in the industry. Later that night, we had the official opening party hosted by Visit Milwaukee  and the Harley Davison Museum. There was free food and live music. I even got free tickets to visit the the famous motorcycle museum; It was an awesome evening 🙂

Very early the next morning, we had free yoga class at the Milwaukee art museum. I had never taken a yoga class before so I excited to try it. The museum was a beauty to behold, the architecture is amazing and its location on lake Michigan made it even more amazing. I witnessed the sunrise that morning, It was a sight to behold. Yoga was taught by an experienced and nice instructor and now i want to try yoga again 🙂

After getting back from the yoga class, it was time to prepare for the full day of assimilating some travel knowledge; we had breakfast and then listened to the famous Oneika. She gave the keynote speech and addressed gender/color issues in travel. She was full of travel knowledge and experience as expected. I learned a lot from her and even met her in person. It was the highlight of this trip 🙂

It was also an honor for me to open sessions for two amazing ladies Deidre Mathis and Deesha Dyer. Two phenomenal women in travel whom I learned a lot from. Later that day, I visited with the different Exhibitors at the summit and networked and talked with several attendees. I made new friends and gained new great contacts.

Later that evening, I was also able to explore downtown Milwaukee during my free time. I walked around the river walk and visited the arena where the Milwaukee bucks play their games. I also had a fabulous Italian dinner at a restaurant downtown.

I love mussels

On Sunday which was the grand finale, the destination for WITS 2018 was announced and it will be in Quebec City Canada. I can’t wait to visit this lovely city and gain some more travel knowledge. All in all, i had a great time at the summit and enjoyed the city of Milwaukee, i learned a lot and met great people. I look forward to seeing everyone again in Canada next year 🙂

Have you ever been to a Travel Summit? if so, which one? how did you like it?

Live Inexpensively Always,
